I ♥ Faces – Nostalgia

I almost didn’t enter this week’s I ♥ Faces challenge because I have a ‘to do’ list that seems 3 miles long.  But I ended up choosing a picture from a fabulous tea party birthday party my daughter attended last year. I’m really moved by the birthday girl’s dad, acting as butler, serving the delectable goodies to the ladies at the tea party. He played the part perfectly and the girls really got into the spirit of the party, with their pinky fingers pointing high in the air, and saying things like, “yes, please” and “you are faaaahr too kind” with a proper English accent. Brian the Butler, is the type of dad I longed for as a kid: loving, playful, kind, attentive. I never met my dad, but I can assure you, these were not the terms used to describe him.

Dad as butler

Two quick footnotes:

First, Jose Villa is judging this week’s contest.  JOSE VILLA!!  I’m feeling really honored and biting my nail nervous at the same time.

Secondly, I firmly believe you have 2 chances at a family: the one you’re born into and the one you create.  Having a ‘sperm-donor-dad’ taught me that when it came time to pick my man, to be sure I picked one that IS everything (and MORE) a kid could want in a dad.  Sam is a fantastic provider, protector and super proud to be his kids’ DAD and I’m proud he’s my man! I’m very fulfilled in my life now and have been able to forgive my ‘dad’ whose absence gave me the strengths I have now.  I should admit, however, that I occasionally shed a tear or two when a father/daughter commercial comes on the tv, and my husband, who knows me better than I know myself, will wrap his arms around me and just hold me.   I’m truly a very lucky woman!

Rabacal - I lost my dad at a young age and have many of the same feelings you do. Isn't it wonderful to have a husband that can be everything to our kids that we missed out on? Beautiful photo.

Foursons - What a precious moment in time! Gotta love that daddy!

Buckeroomama - This has got to be my favorite among all the photos so far! What a sweet pic. I love that the little girl even had that shawl on her.

Amanda LaMartina - That dad is SO AWESOME!! I recently attended a "fancy picnic" with a couple of my little sisters, but there were no BUTLERS there! There was a violinist though, so that was cool. But yeah. Such a cute dad.

Tracie - Those girls will grow up with all sorts of confidence because they had that father figure to teach them that sort of love...what a great capture of a wonderful memory for them! You picked a good one(man, i mean!)

tiff - Oh my! I LOVE this. One of my faves.

Becca - What an absolutely perfectg entry for this week's theme! I loved your post too - so sweet!

Jody Bell - Ahhhh! Brendan and I were looking at your site and came across this. I don't know if ever saw this picture and what you wrote was so nice! I'll be sure to show Brian when he comes home tonight. Miss you!
